Frequently Asked Questions
1. How many books at a time may a student check out from the library?
It is recommended that students have out a total of 3 items at any one time; two of those items may be fiction and/or manga/graphic novels. Remember, students and staff may visit the LMC at any time to exchange books. Students and staff may also have up to two items checked out a time on Sora through the CPCSC OverDrive digital library and the Cloud Library with access through JCPL SMART cards.
2. When are books due?
Item in the LMC are due three weeks from the day they are checked out. Items may renewed as long as no one is on the waitlist for the items.
3. How are books selected for the library?
Mrs. Kern, the CPMS library media specialist, regularly consults various selection aids including the following: Booklist, School Library Journal, Titlewave, YALSA, Kirkus and various other review sources. Mrs. Kern also considers requests from students and teachers. If requests prove to be beneficial to the library collection, those materials will be added as the budget allows.
4. How do students become library assistants?
When students schedule for their 8th grade year, they may gain parent and teacher permission to possibly be scheduled as an assistant during the related arts class periods. For more information, contact your school counselor.
5. When can students visit the library?
Students visit or the library on a regular tri-weekly schedule from their English language arts classes. To begin the 2020 school year, the LMC has posted an opening plan.
6. How many books are in the library?
About 11,000 inside the LMC space and about 4000 on the CPCSC digital library accessed through Sora/OverDrive.
7. When is the library open?
During all school hours and on some afternoons for an extended time after school. To begin the 2020 school year, the LMC has posted an opening plan.
8. How do students get involved in virtual activities including Maker Mondays, YHBA Club, and other opportunities?
